Open Innovation Program

Our Open Innovation Program fosters scientific innovation and collaboration.

Emphasizing Collaborative Innovation

At AbbVie, we recognize and appreciate the power of ideas and research outside our organization. Our Open Innovation Program provides opportunities for external collaborators to access tool compounds to conduct preclinical research. The tool compounds cover multiple therapeutic areas and mechanisms of action and are provided free of charge.

Open Innovation Program Frequently Asked Questions

The AbbVie Compound Toolbox consists of potent, selective, well-characterized tool compounds or probes that can be utilized to conduct preclinical research. Compounds may be used to explore specific targets, pathways or assays of interest to the requesting investigator.

Compounds may be ordered directly from our Open Innovation Portal. Requestors need to create an account in the Portal.

The requestors are required to provide a brief non-confidential description on how they intend to use the compounds and a signed Material Transfer Agreement available at the Open Innovation Portal.

AbbVie is committed to providing the compounds in an expedited manner. Typically materials will be shipped within 2-3 weeks upon receipt of request and signed Material Transfer Agreement. AbbVie covers material and shipment costs (not including VAT, where applicable).

Any research investigator from academic, industrial, government and nonprofit organizations are welcome to submit requests. The investigator’s institution needs to provide AbbVie with a signed Material Transfer Agreement available at the Open Innovation Portal.
